Project Success Story: Boeing Funded R&D Project

Improving air quality in aircraft cabins is crucial for a healthier environment for both passengers and crew. "Advanced Filtration Technology - Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Removal" Project conducted in ITU Aerospace Research Center achieved a success on creating a ‘UV-LED Photoreactor System’ with specialized photocatalysts removing common VOCs in aircraft cabins undern high air flow rates. This novel technology features to be used with (High Efficiency Particulate Air) HEPA filters in environemntal control systems in aircrafts. The prototype tests were performed in Lawrance National Berkeley Laboratory in March 2018 and the research and development project is funded by BOEING since 2013. This project is also a milestone both for ITU-ARC and Boeing where being the first R&D project funded by Boeing in Turkey.
